Okeechobee Shooting Sports is home to some of the finest shooting instructors in the state. Whether you’re just starting out or a skilled operator- you can find a class and instructor here you will enjoy and learn from.

We are also excited to partner with Florida Firearms Training to conduct Weekly Introductory and Concealed Weapons Permit classes. These classes will fulfill all of the Florida State requirements for CCW permits and give you the basics of handgun manipulation and defensive use.

  • Cancellations must be made no later than 48 hours prior to class.
  • We cannot offer refunds however credit will be given towards another class.
  • Cancellations made within 48 hours of the class and “No Shows” will not be refunded or credited to another class.

Introduction to Handgun

Course Brief:

This 4 Hour class is designed to teach the student the basic knowledge and attitudes necessary for selecting, owning and using the pistol of their choice safely and effectively. Topics covered include: Safe gun handling, weapon selection, firearm nomenclature, ammunition options and applications and storage & maintenance. We will also cover the fundamentals of pistol shooting including, grip options, stance options, sighting fundamentals, trigger control. You will leave this class with a working knowledge of firearms and how to handle them safely and competently.

This course also includes our Florida Concealed Weapon License Course.

  • Cost: $150
  • Length: 4 Hours
  • Ammunition Required: 100 rounds
  • Equipment Required: None. Handgun, and Eye & Ear Protection Rental are Included in the Course Fees
  • Prerequisites: Students must be 18 years or older
  • Maximum Student to Instructor Ratio: 6:1
  • The 1st Sunday of Each Month from 1-5pm

Advanced Concealed Carry

Course Brief:

So you’ve got your Concealed Carry Permit, now what? This 4 Hour class covers those very next steps that everyone planning to carry a handgun for self-defense should learn. This is not a target shooting class- it’s learning to use your firearm in a realistic way to fight for your life and specifically addresses Concealed Carry issues. This is designed for current Concealed Carry License holders who would like to hone their personal protection skills for real life situations.

  • Must be comfortable with chosen firearm while shooting in a traditional static range environment
  • Must be familiar with basic manipulation and use of chosen firearm
  • Must have concealed weapons permit or have completed criminal background check

Introduction to Handgun

Equipment List:
  • Your Chosen Handgun for Concealed Carry
  • A Standard Strong Side Carry Holster for your Chosen Handgun (*Holster Guidelines)
  • Minimum of 2 Pistol Magazines (The more the better!)
  • Full-wrap Eye and Ear Protection (May be rented from the range.)
  • Sturdy Gun Belt and Pants with Belt Loops
  • 150-200 Rounds Ammunition (This may be purchased at the range.)
  • Clothing you would NORMALLY wear while carrying your firearm (no open toe shoes, no v-neck or tank-top shirts)
  • A Cover Garment such as a Lightweight Button-up Shirt.
  • Pen and Paper

Concealed Weapon or Firearm License Course

Course Brief:

This is the required State of Florida certificated basic safety course, that covers firearms safety, on range qualification, individual legal responsibility and Florida law requirements. Cost includes class, range time, ear & eye protection if needed, State CWL application pack and all classroom materials.

Please note: This class is for experienced shooters who can demonstrate basic handgun knowledge and safety. If you are not an experienced shooter, please register for the Handgun Intro Class(left) which will also meet the requirements to apply for your Florida concealed weapon permit.

  • Course Level: Intermediate
  • Cost: $65
  • Length: 2 Hours
  • Ammunition Required: 25 rounds
  • Equipment Required: None. Handgun, and Eye & Ear Protection Rental are Included in the Course Fees
  • Prerequisites: Students must be 21 years or older and able to demonstrate competency with a handgun.
  • Maximum Number of Students: 12
  • The 1st Sunday of Each Month at 1pm

Ladies Only Advanced Concealed Carry

Course Brief:

This All Day Class covers those very next steps with a focus on the Female Concealed Weapons Permit Holder. Topics covered include female specific options for concealed carry (holsters and handbags) such as shooting through a handbag. Ladies can learn and ask questions in a comfortable environment with their peers. This is designed for current Concealed Carry License holders who would like to hone their personal protection skills for real life situations. Check out a video of this class here!

AR15 / M4 Platform Principles: Four Hours / $150

This course is geared towards anyone looking to learn how to use the AR15 platform safely, effectively and reliably. It offers owners of AR-15 / M-4 /M-16 style rifles the necessary skill set for safe and proper application of this AR platform. Students will become familiarized with the AR-15 / M-4 rifle and will learn the basic gun-handling skills that are necessary to safely operate and maintain this weapon system.

  • Disassembly & Reassembly
  • Function Checking
  • Preventive Maintenance and Cleaning.
  • Fundamentals of Rifle Shooting including Zeroing Sights
  • Understanding Projectile Trajectory

  • Shooting Positions

Ammunition Required: 100 rounds

Additional Equipment: AR-15 or M-4 type rifle with iron sights or optic, sling, and gun cleaning kit.

Gunshot Wound Care

With the unfortunate increase in violent crime, civilians as well as security personnel are beginning to realize the benefits of knowing basic Combat Casualty Care. Knowing what to do after a shooting or even an explosion can save not only your life but increase the chance of survival for those that are injured. FACT: It takes, in general, 3 minutes or less to bleed out from an arterial bleed caused by a gunshot wound. What can you do about it?

This full day course is designed to bring current life saving techniques to the student via a progressive learning training model that enables those with little or no medical experience to confidently complete the program knowing that he or she is equipped to save lives.

This class is taught using all the advantages of experience-based form, as opposed to just sitting in a classroom and listening to a lecture. Students become part of the exercise and are made to LIVE the Simulated Scenarios, Make Decisions and Practically Apply Skills.

In This Course Students Will Be Taught:
  • The Phases of Care – A standardized approach in caring for a casualty is taught so that the non-medical person can understand and apply life-saving principles.
  • Correct use of Emergency Med Kit – You will be taught how to correctly use all the contents of your IPOK, IFAK, etc.
  • Tourniquet – Correct use and application of tourniquets. Control of Major Bleeding – You will be taught the most rapid way to control arterial bleeding – the #1 Leading Preventable Cause of Death from gunshot wounds.
  • Airway Control – Learn how to protect and control the airway.
  • Abdominal Trauma – Learn what you able to do to provide care for an injury in the abdominal region. Bandaging – You will learn how to control all types of bleeding.

Cost for this All Day Class is $200 including all materials.
